An ode to Madelyn Sergel: There are a lot of incredible people doing absolutely amazing things in this city. Today I'd like to introduce you to one of them: the fabulous, unbelievably dedicated and inspiring cheerleader of a woman, Madelyn Sergel: playwright, producer, and co-Artistic Director of Clockwise Theatre. (Visit clockwisetheatre.org, scroll down to the bottom of their page and read "Clockwise and Waukegan.") She is a force to be reckoned with and has brought downtown Waukegan the incredible gift of a theatre company. You'll be hearing lots more about Clockwise soon - including their awesome Game Show Show Fundraiser coming up on Saturday. I'll be there! Madelyn and I love Waukegan. As long as I've been here and as many people as I've talked to about this city, Madelyn was the first person to tell me those three little words that changed my life: Waukegan is perfect. She told the opening night audience at Kita y Fernanda (amazing show) that Waukegan is perfect and I just couldn't stop smiling. I'm proud of where I live - but to have somebody else say it out loud - and mean it!- was incredible. Today Madelyn brought me a bag of buttons that say "Waukegan is perfect". I'm wearing mine right now. Post a reason why Waukegan is perfect and I'll give you a button too (just come pick it up from my office). There's so much to smile about here, so let's start bragging!
